The Royal colours

Today I decided to get the Prince and it's train sorted out.
Prince will mostly be hauling slates at Warley, so I got all of the wagons out. I have 10 3 Ton slate wagons and a brakevan to go with it. The brakevan has been built, and will be in Red Oxide livery.
The wagons have all been painted gray, they will all be marked as 'Maenofferen' wagons.
The Prince, I'm especially chuffed about. It turned out better than what I expected. It's been painted in it's 'new' colour. It's darker than the cherry red that it currently carries, but lighter than Palmerston and Merddin's maroon.
There is only one problem at the moment, it can't pull the train!! It slips even when pulling the train on a flat bit of rail. More weight is required, the question is, where?!

  1. Extra weight would be best positioned right above the wheels - perhaps some tiny lead balls (Eileens Emporium sells it as 'Liquid Lead') glued into the top of the saddle tank.

It's also worth trying to cut down the weight of the tender by hacking out the cast whitemetal coal and replacing with some fragments of the real stuff (much lighter).

If you can I would also suggest retro-fitting brass axle bearings which will significantly reduce the drag. This is what we did to all of our Englands on Dduallt.

Interesting choice of chassis. Why did you go for the N Drive rather than a Fleishman?

    1. I bought the N Drive because it said on the Langley Website that they where a replacement for the Cuckoo chassis. Plus they are a bit cheaper than the Fleishman.
The tender has had it's cast-in coal removed and the current coal is resting on a wedge made from plasticard.
      Thanks for the advice.
